Saved the best state for last! New Hampshire!
Hiked up to the Madison Hut where Rebecca and I stayed for 2 nights.
Tough hike, especially carrying an overnight pack- grateful we didn't have to hike back down in the same day. It was nice to be able to leave our heavy packs at the hut on the 14th to summit and hike the ridge with a light daypack and return to the hut that night. On Friday, the 15th we hiked down and I realized why I was so delirious after hiking up on Wednesday, it took me 4.5 hours just to hike down! Climbing over rocks and boulders a good part of the way!
This was the view of the sunrise from my bunk in the hut!
This staff member was demonstrating how they go down the mountain about 3 times a week and strap food and supplies on their backs using this contraption to carry up the mountain to feed 50 hungry hikers a full breakfast and dinner every day! And they fed us well! Soup, salad, bread, entree, and dessert and gluten free options for me!!
View from the Parapet
After visiting 23 different states and a Canadian Province during 108 days on the road, saw some amazing places, the view from the Presidential Mountains right here in NH is some of the most beautiful scenery and gives any other state a run for it's money!
Heading towards Mount Adams in the distance.
View of Mount Washington from Mount Adams.
Rebecca and I on the summit of Mount Adams.
Mount Adams has a beautiful 360 degree view!
Heading towards Mount Jefferson.
See all these rocks? This was basically what the trail looked like for the next 2-3 miles to Mount Jefferson. Rock scrambling, often rock cairns like the one in the picture below were the only markers for the trail.
Spoke to a girl at the base of Mount Jefferson summit who had hiked here from Georgia on the Appalachian Trail. I asked her what the most challenging part of her journey has been? She replied: hiking the Presidential Range here in the White Mountains of NH has definitely been the most technically difficult to hike!
The clouds rolled in just after we hiked through that ridge on our way back to the hut.
We were ready to go home- so drove quite a ways over the next 4 days.
From Michigan UP- we crossed over into Ontario, Canada at Sault St Marie. We spent 2 nights in Ontario, one at Thessalon Lakeside Park on Lake Huron, and one in Cobden. We crossed back into the USA at Cornwall and spent the last night of our trip at Sam Mazza's Farm in Colchester, VT. And then arrived in good ole NH!! Happy to be home!
