12/18/23: Postponed going to the Outer Banks and stayed in Maple, N. Carolina
due to a tropical storm that hit the whole east coast- Folly Beach, S. Carolina was
flooded with 2' of water all the way to the river in Jackson, NH overflowing!
It was very windy here overnight: 40-50mph wind gusts, rain got into some of our
outside cubbies, but we did not get flooded.
The Outer Banks did get hit hard- Okracoke was flooded and the ferry there
was not running. Sadly we only saw half the outer banks due to this storm and
returned inland since the islands were not currently accessible.
We were grateful we did not attempt to go to the Outer Banks yesterday-
the White Wizard lives to adventure another day!
Wright Brothers National Memorial and Visitor Center- Kitty Hawk, N. Carolina: 12/18/23
We really enjoyed our this to this museum- ranger talks were excellent, definitely worth the stop!
Exactly 120 years ago yesterday- the Wright brothers achieved their first controlled motorized flight!
Oregon Inlet Campground
Walked from the campground, through the dunes- to this beach. I was the only one here.
Wow! What a magical place!
Wild waves crashing after last night's storm.
Came back to the beach the following morning- to enjoy my cup of chai tea and watch the waves and the birds.
