Met John & Malou in Emigrant, Montana while listening to a local band in a BBQ joint. They were excited to met some New Hampshire folk since John went to school at Phillips Exeter Academy and Malou went to College in Vermont. They asked us where we were spending the night and we said at the free parking spot across the street at the General Store, and they said that was unacceptable and we should come to their house. We ended up spending the weekend at their house and they even gave us the key to their car! Wonderful hospitality! We really enjoyed our stay- thank you so much John & Malou!!
This was our parking spot at their house for the weekend!
A family of deer would frequent their property.
They drove us upriver about 6 miles where Ken and I floated back to their home.
The second day I went kayaking with Malou- a storm blew in while we were out on the Yellowstone River and some major winds started blowing against us, I would guess about 40 mph wind gusts which really kept us from flowing even with a 5-6 mph river current. We paddled to the Loch Leven outlet where John was already waiting to rescue us! Malou was a trooper- we had a blast in the crazy Montana weather !
